Privacy policy
Discover Scents is a perfume discovery site for Nigeria. We show prices and stock from retailers, and we let you save fragrances you want to come back to. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to reach us.
Who we are
Discover Scents operates this website. For questions about your data, write to contact@discoverscents.ng.
We handle personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
What we collect
If you browse without an account, we collect very little:
- Your cookie choice, once you accept or reject optional cookies
- Your theme preference, if you switch light or dark mode
- Standard server logs such as IP address, browser, and the page requested, kept briefly to run and secure the site
If you create an account, we also store:
- Name and email address
- A hashed password, never the password itself
- Saved perfume slugs
- Whether you asked for promotional emails
- A short-lived verification code, hashed, until it expires or you confirm the email
If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email, Google account id, and profile photo. We use those to create or recognise your Discover Scents account. We do not get your Google password.
Why we use it
- To create and keep your account
- To confirm your email and send one-time codes
- To remember saved perfumes and keep you signed in
- To send occasional notes about new scents and offers, only if you tick that box when you create an account
- To remember light or dark mode
- To understand how the site is used, if you allow optional cookies
- To measure advertising (Google Ads and Meta) that sends people to this site, if you allow optional cookies
- To keep the service secure and fix problems
We do not sell perfume, we do not take payment for placement, and we do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Some are needed for the site to work. Others are optional. You can change your choice at any time from the Cookies link in the footer.

Sign in with Google may set cookies from Google on the sign-in pages. That is Google’s service, described in Google’s privacy policy.
Who else sees it
We use other companies to run the product. They only get what they need to do that job:
- Hosting for the website and API
- A database for accounts and the catalogue
- Brevo, to send verification, welcome, and (if you opt in) promotional emails
- Google, if you choose Sign in with Google
- Google Analytics, only if you allow optional cookies — page views and basic usage, not your account password
- Google Ads, only if you allow optional cookies — to measure clicks from ads and whether someone then visits a store or creates an account
- Meta (Facebook / Instagram), only if you allow optional cookies — to measure and improve ads that send people to this site
Catalogue prices and stock come from public retailer listings. That is product data, not your personal data.
If we later show experiences from public conversations about perfume, we do not attach usernames, profile pictures, or social handles.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you ask us to delete it. Verification codes expire in minutes. Signed-in sessions last 30 days. Server logs are rotated in the ordinary course of hosting.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- See what we hold about you
- Correct it
- Delete your account and personal data
- Withdraw optional cookie consent
- Stop promotional emails, using the unsubscribe link in those messages or by writing to us

Children
This site is not aimed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the site after that date is how you accept the revised policy.
